once you get into your homebrew channel and begin to explore all the wonders that live there the last thing you want to do is to have to go back to the old non-bubble popping (spoiler: see easter egg) wii menu just to play a game. well now you don’t have to.

with the wii gameload app you can launch a regular wii game disk game from the comfort of your homebrew channel.

this video shows how simple it is to install a new app with the homebrew browser and then goes on to demostrate how the wii gameload utility allows you to begin playing a regular wii game disk without exiting to the boring old standard wii menu.

this is a great app and it serves all wii homebrew users well. by saving us all those precious seconds that we would otherwise have to waste just to do what the wii was meant for in the first place, playing games, wii gameload enters the realm of our “must have” list.

aspirin is another great game for wii homebrew. the graphics are a little too plain and there is an unfortunate lack of motions controls. yet, this game is addictive and challenging enough to make it worth your time. check out this video:Aspirin

there really isn’t a whole lot we can say except that future updates to this app could prove to be very interesting. a little background music, motion controls, and a two player mode and we could be on our way to a solid 8 or 9 out of 10.

Now here is a homebrew game that takes the Wiimote seriously. In Cosmo Raketti you pilot a small spaceship through tunnel after tunnel shooting your way past enemies and obstacles. The control scheme for this game is rather interesting since you actually fly your ship totally with the Wiimote’s motion controls. Holding your Wiimote like a toy airplane you tip it left, right, up and down looking for the safest route and the best shot. Cosmo Raketti also has a great multi-player function where up to four players attempt the levels together.

Cosmo Raketii

Those of us at Wii Homebrew Review really like this game a lot but it does have a couple of drawbacks that need to be mentioned. First of all, there is a “steeper than normal” learning curve in Cosmo Raketti. The fact is that Wii players have become spoiled with the the system’s very intuitive control scheme. Remember how surprised you were when grandma picked up the Wiimote and bowled a strike in Wii Sports. Not every game is going to be as intuitive and Cosmo Raketti does take a little bit of getting used to for some players. Secondly, the multiplayer mode does get a bit crowded as everyone plays on the same screen at the same time. It does work but maybe a split screen option could be available to help players focus on their own ship. Finally, and we don’t want to sound like complainers here but the game does get a little glitchy at times. Flying into walls will often result in your ship flying completely outside the level entirely, making it impossible for you to die and impossible for you to reach your goal.

Like I said we really like this game and we are very impressed with the motion control scheme. Wii Homebrew Review gives Cosmo Raketti a definitely rating (9/10) and we can’t wait to see what future updates may bring to this title.

Shooting targets or smashing bottles, which is where I’m guessing the game gets its name, whatever you prefer this Homebrew shooting game has it all. There are two play modes; time limited target shooting and a speed shooting challenge. Using your Wiimote as a six shooter pistol all you need to do is point and click, err, shoot. Actually it’s not really quite that simple.

In the one player mode target shooting you need to score as many points as you can in the time allotted and the highest scores are achieved by hitting red and gold targets while avoiding the green ones at all cost. In the two player mode both players compete simultaneously trying to hit their own colour targets, avoiding their opponents colour and trying to grab as many gold ones as possible. The two player mode is where Smashing! really shines.

Smashing

In the speed challenge mode you have six bottles to shoot as quickly as you can. Real great times are only possible by hitting all six bottles with your first six shots as reloading wastes valuable time. Reloading your six-shooter is accomplished by shaking your Wiimote, although we found a quick sudden downward movement is the best way to reload without disturbing your rhythm too badly.

Smashing! is a great excuse to break out that Wii-zapper and Wii Homebrew Review gives it a definitely rating. (8/10)
