Dvd playback on wii! How can it be done?!?

A got my wii a while ago and I just learned about the homebrew thing. I really want dvd playback but the thing said you couldn’t have done the wii system upgrade of october 23rd 2008. Can someone show me the one where you could have used that upgrade? PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
